Algaplus, Portugal

“Algae may be the key to unlocking an important negative-emissions technology to combat climate change,” Charles Greene, Cornell professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences said. The scientist explained that when algae is combined with eucalyptus, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage as well as microalgae production could produce a unique scientific synergy that could both reduce greenhouse gases and help solve world hunger.

Solar Power Small Desalination Plant, India

10,000-liters-per-day solar-powered desalination plant was set up at the Vivekananda Memorial in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.  The plant was developed by a team from the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M)

Odyssey Sensors, UK Based

Odyssey Sensors, in collaboration with Definium Technologies, developed and field-tested a low-cost (<$30), solar-powered, handheld salinity sensor with the potential to double smallholder shrimp farmers’ crop yields and incomes, in less than one year. The novelty of the Healthy Shrimp Salinity Sensor is grounded in its affordability, durability and accuracy.

TVEC (Technical and Vocational Education Center), Maldives

Technical and Vocational Education Center (TVEC) is a vocational training institute established in 2017 by the Coastline Foundation. It is a one of a kind institution where participants learn through practical experience, team work, community activities and living together. Established in B. Kihaadhoo, spanning over an area of about 5 acres, TVEC is the first and one of its kind institute in the Maldives with training programmes including trade specific and personal development programmes conducted in a unique live-in learning community.

Energaia, Thailand

EnerGaia has designed a way to farm spirulina: a nutritious, algae “super-food” that tastes good and can grow anywhere. Right now, EnerGaia cultivates spirulina on urban rooftops, but the company’s production unit can be outfitted for almost any location. Packaged in fresh, dry and frozen powder forms, the harvested algae can be mixed directly into recipes or consumed as a vitamin supplement.
